The City of Fond du Lac is accepting submissions for the position of Assistant Transit Manager. This full time position reports directly to the Transit Manager and will provide a variety of support tasks to the Transit Manager, including overseeing all Transit operations in the absence of the Transit Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Works with the Transit Manager to determine the goals and needs of the division to meet requirements established by the City Council and Administration; implements programs and solutions necessary to attain these goals.
Exemplify and convey all relevant City, Department, Division, and Office goals and direction to employees to ensure that service delivery and performance meet expected levels of safety, customer satisfaction, and completeness; ensures that all activities and requirements are performed on time and to established standards
Accountability for annual federal database reporting. (National Transit Database) Assist Transit Manager with reports and projects including state, federal, and capital improvements. These reports include but are not limited to federal triennials, safety system management, and Public Transit Agency Safety Plan.
Assist the Transit Manager with the administration and oversight of transit service contracts and special fare programs; supervises administration of off-site and commercial sales of transit fare media through community and institutional outlets.
Provide excellent customer service via phone, email, and in-person to include addressing customer complaints in a timely and appropriate manner and relaying calls/referring callers as appropriate Ensure driver attendance each day and perform dispatching duties for fixed route operations. Supervise fixed route operations and provide leadership to drivers.
Maintain driver scheduling and time off requests.
Handle off-hour radio and telephone communication such as filling shifts due to illness and being on call after normal business/office hours.
Assist Transit Manager with employee training.
Physically respond to accidents involving transit vehicles.
Assist the Transit Manager with the administration of employee labor contracts, including hearing and processing of employee complaints and grievances
Perform other special projects and duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required; or any combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Have and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license; a good driving record is required. Knowledge of general office procedures and practices including experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook – ability to learn additional computer programs as needed
- Superior oral and written communications skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, fellow employees and the public
- Ability to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision
- Ability to act independently and confidently in situations of stress
- Knowledge of Public Transportation Operations is preferred, with additional training or experience in FTA compliant procurement practices a plus.

Salary Range:
We offer a competitive compensation package ($27.92 - $31.91/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
