Job Title:                           Garage Manager

Department/Division:       Maintenance - Garage

Location:                           Kinnickinnic Garage

Shift:                                  1st Shift: 6:30AM TO 3:00PM, Monday through Friday (hours may vary depending on department needs)

FLSA Status:                     Exempt - Non-Represented

Salary Range:                    $82,500-$103,167

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages and directs the garage maintenance functions to ensure efficient overall day-to-day operations within the assigned facility. Supervises assigned staff, which may include supervisors.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides direct supervision of all shifts at each garage.
  2. Ensures compliance to Company and Department procedures and policies and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  3. Plans and prioritizes work assignments; ensures all work is scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
  4. Assigns road call.
  5. Performs accident and road call inspections.
  6. Manages, assesses and controls inventory.
  7. Oversees maintenance of the Garage Facility, prioritizes tasks and repair of equipment.
  8. Manages budget and assigns overtime as needed.
  9. Monitors employee attendance and resolves employee conflicts.
  10. Reviews and monitors daily reports and Monthly Maintenance Report.
  11. Creates communication lines between Garage and internal departments and external vendors.
  12. Performs accident investigations and enters reporting data.
  13. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associates Degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Maintenance, Diesel and Powertrain Servicing, or related field.  Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
  2. Five (5) years related experience working with diesel engines, air brakes, HVAC, emissions, chassis, electrical including schematics required.
  3. Three (3) years of experience in maintenance supervision required (unionized environment preferred).
  4. Valid Class D Wisconsin non-probationary driver’s license required.
  5. Must obtain valid Class B CDL License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction (or valid CDL permit) within 6 months of employment.
  6. Must pass pre-employment skill assessment tests.
  7. Must pass a Pre-Placement DOT drug screen.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and State Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations. 
  2. Knowledge of diesel engine systems, heavy-duty vehicle components and equipment.
  3. Knowledge of Company policies and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of union contracts and policies.
  5. Skilled in computer operations, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation and related software.
  6. Ability to manage conflict and balance competing interests from multiple stakeholders.
  7. Ability to manage others professionally.
  8. Ability to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  10. Ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Work is frequently conducted in an office, shop environment or garage. The incumbent may be exposed to extreme temperatures, moving mechanical parts, fumes and loud noises.
  2. Physical requirements are those described as light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
