Reports To:                            Mobility Manager

Salary Range:                        $ 55,300 - $ 66,367

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides one-on-one training and support to older adults and individuals with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities on the safe and proper use of public transportation. Participates in group outreach and training sessions. Collaborates with eligibility assessors to assess potential paratransit client ability to use the transit system.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides one-on-one training and support to older adults and individuals with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities on the safe and proper use of public transportation.
  2. Makes initial telephone contact with potential travel training clients.
  3. Meets with clients during eligibility assessment to promote travel training program.
  4. Gathers demographic and general client information from individual and/or representative during initial meetings.
  5. Compiles and enters data into database and updates as needed.
  6. Uses data for marketing strategy to reach more potential clients; establishes goals for future years.
  7. Offers group presentations, individualized travel planning, securement consultation and route planning,
  8. Investigates and reconciles complaints.
  9. Coordinates, schedules and provides securement training for new and interested users of mobility devices.
  10. Provides sensitivity training for stations, instructors, dispatch, etc.
  11. Provides community outreach presentations and participates in resource fairs to provide information on new initiatives, changes and current programs.
  12. Solicits new opportunities for community outreach.
  13. Promotes upcoming events.
  14. Schedules, coordinates, and gathers materials for group presentations.
  15. Performs other departmental duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field required.
  2. Two (2) years related experience working with seniors and persons with disabilities required. 
  3. Valid WI driver's license, proof of auto insurance and reliable transportation.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of training strategies,  techniques, trends, and best practices.
  2. Knowledge of Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) rules and laws.
  3. Knowledge of MCTS routes including quarterly route changes.
  4. Knowledge of MCTS operations and policies, as well as the Transit Plus Paratransit Program and other initiatives.
  5. Knowledge of MCTS trip planning applications. 
  6. Skilled in computer operations and spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, database, and related software.
  7. Ability to work with people with disabilities and seniors.
  8. Ability to develop and execute company strategies to attain outcomes for set goals.
  9. Ability to  organize and engage an audience.
  10. Ability to manage conflict and balance competing interests from multiple stakeholders.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  12. Ability to work independently.
  13. Ability to  work a flexible schedule.
  14. Ability to coach and support bus operators.
  15. Ability to develop training materials.
  16. Ability to find creative solutions to mobility, accessibility, and advocacy issues.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Work is frequently conducted an office, community, outdoor, street, or bus environment.

Incumbents may sometimes be exposed to hostile or irate individuals, individuals with known violent backgrounds, extreme weather, communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts or loud noises.

  1. Physical requirements are those described as medium work exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
  2. Ability to stand for extended periods frequently and ability to walk several blocks multiple times per day.
