Job Title:                                         Travel Training Specialist

Department:                                    Paratransit

FLSA Status:                                   Non-Exempt, Non-Represented

Annual Salary Range:                    $55,300- $66,367

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides one-on-one training and support to older adults and individuals with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities on the safe and proper use of public transportation. Participates in group outreach and training sessions. Collaborates with eligibility assessors to assess potential paratransit client ability to use the transit system.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Provides one-on-one training and support to older adults and individuals with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities on the safe and proper use of public transportation.
  2. Gathers demographic and general client information during initial meetings.
  3. Enters data into database and updates as needed.
  4. Uses data for marketing strategy to reach more potential clients; establishes goals for future years.
  5. Offers group presentations, individualized travel planning, securement consultation and route planning,
  6. Investigates and reconciles complaints.
  7. Coordinates, schedules and provides securement training for new and interested users of mobility devices.
  8. Provides sensitivity training for stations, instructors, dispatch, etc.
  9. Provides community outreach presentations and participates in resource fairs to provide information on new initiatives, changes and current programs.
  10. Advertises upcoming events.
  11. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field required.
  2. One (1) year related experience working with the elderly/disabled required.
  3. Valid WI driver's license, proof of auto insurance and reliable transportation required.
  4. Experience riding public transit strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of training strategies and techniques.
  2. Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules and laws.
  3. Knowledge of MCTS operations and policies, as well as Paratransit Program, Transit Plus and other operations.
  4. Knowledge of training trends and best practices.
  5. Ability to understand and explain transit schedules, system maps, fare payment and user apps.
  6. Skilled in computer operations and spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and related software.
  7. Ability to develop and execute company strategies to attain outcomes for set goals.
  8. Ability to manage others.
  9. Ability to manage conflict and balance competing interests from multiple stakeholders.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Ability to work independently.
  12. Ability to present information to both small and large audiences.
  13. Ability to coach and support operators.
  14. Ability to develop training materials.
  15. Ability to work with people with disabilities and seniors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

 

  1. Work is frequently conducted an office, community, outdoor, street, or bus environment. Incumbents may sometimes be exposed to hostile or irate individuals, individuals with known violent backgrounds, extreme weather, communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts or loud noises.
  2. Physical requirements are those described as medium work exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
